Moogie's Test-Taking Tips

Remember: A little extra effort can really pay off!

Students - In General

  • Don't wait until the last minute to start preparing for your test

  • Use Moogie on the Net a little each day - Every little bit helps, so make Moogie a part of your routine

  • Don't worry about your Progress Scores until your Exposure is 100% (meaning you've seen all question types in a strand)

  • Have fun with the Prize Room. When you have credits to use, take a break. You've earned it!

  • It's OK to guess answers with Moogie, but try not to do it too much. Try to understand each question

  • Don't be afraid to ask for help. A teacher, a parent, or a friend all are good people to ask

  • If you keep missing the same question type, Moogie will remember it and keep giving it back to you, so...

  • Again, don't be afraid to ask for help. It's the only way to learn!

  • Last but not least, have fun with Moogie!

Students - Test Day

  • Get a good night's sleep
  • Eat a good breakfast
  • Get to school on time and have a positive attitude
  • Be prepared - make sure you have everything you need when you get to school
  • Be alert, stay calm and don't worry or panic
  • Follow the directions carefully
  • Always read all the possible choices for each question before answering
  • Select the best answer. It won't help to spend a lot of time on a question you don't know
  • Mark the answer in the correct place
  • Do your best!

Parents - In General

  • The most important teacher in your child's life is you. Let your child know that you think education is important. Every day, get your child to school on time, well rested and ready to learn. Ask your child what he or she did in school. Set a regular time for your child to do homework and make sure all assignments are finished. Ask your child to explain how an answer was reached. Your showing interest in what your children are learning really helps keep them interested in what they are learning

  • Work with your child's teacher to identify strengths and weaknesses. Then create a study plan for addressing those areas. Continuously tell your child why working hard in school is important.

  • Please don't wait to sign your child up for Moogie on the Net one week before the big test - learning takes time!

Parents - Test Day

  • Make certain children get a good night's sleep and a good breakfast the day of the test.

  • Try to make the morning of the test very pleasant and not add to the child's stress.

  • Do not let children be late for school.

  • Remind children to listen carefully to the instructions from the teacher and to carefully read the directions and each question.

  • Encourage children to stay focused, even if others finish early.

  • Reassure children that they do not have to answer all the questions correctly to pass. No student is expected to answer every question correctly.

  • Remind children that the test is important.

  • Explain to children the importance of using time wisely. If a child gets stuck on a question, make a best guess or place a mark in the test booklet by that item - come back later and work on it with the remaining time.
