OVERVIEW

In the fall of 1996, Joe Emanuel was assigned the task of preparing approximately twenty-five 11th and 12th grade students for the Ohio 9th Grade Math Proficiency Test. During the three-week remediation (yes, we know that's not nearly long enough) Mr. Emanuel found himself creating a lot of worksheets, and specifically, the questions that went on them. After about the fifth set, it dawned on him that this was something a computer could do, and thus was born the concept of Moogie Math: Every time a question appears, the numbers are always different! Mr. Emanuel went about creating the first version of Moogie Math, and by February 1997, Moogie was ready for his debut with students preparing for the spring testing.

In addition to the ever-changing questions, Moogie allows students to do their Work-Outs in the Learning Strand of their (or their teacher's) choice. And Moogie remembers how students do on each question - not just overall in an area. Moogie doesn't waste students' time with questions they don't have trouble with! His fellow teachers were impressed with Moogie Math, and the drill & diagnostic format became an instant hit with everyone who used it. There was - and continues to be - simply nothing else like it.

By 1999, Moogie Math continued to evolve and spread across the US. It was at this time that Moogie Math Plus was released. The Plus version allows teachers to create worksheets and tests by selecting how many questions for each objective should be used. Because the numbers always change, every worksheet is different. As you can imagine, the ability to create an unlimited number of worksheets customized for precisely what their students need is very well received by teachers.

As time passed, the question databases in Moogie's arsenal continued to be expanded and improved, and on April 15, 2004, Moogie Math officially went online as Moogie on the Net! Now there is no need to install software and wonder, "Do we have the latest version?" Moogie can be used on any operating system with a browser and Internet access!  Moogie on the Net also saw the added features of Online Assessments, AWWS (Actively Working the Weak Spots) Follow-up Workouts, teacher-defined Moogie Educational Plans (MEP's), and the ability for students to Stomp their Red Flags.

In late 2006, a teacher using the original Standard and Plus CD's wanted her students to be able to take the Online Assessments offered to users of Moogie on the Net, and we were happy to oblige. The Internet Testing Companion allows students to take as many tests as they would like. A report is then created showing the Learning Objectives they had trouble with. There are no student accounts to create or maintain - it's all very quick and easy. Teachers using any of the many math software titles on the market (not just Moogie) will find the Testing Companion to be an excellent additional resource for their students.

Over the Spring/Summer of 2007, we made significant changes to Moogie on the Net with how the Online Tests are presented to students. We also created a new Home Page for teachers which makes the features of Moogie easier to find and use. The biggest change, perhaps, is that teachers no longer need to create Online Assignments for students to be able to take them. Although teachers can still design their own customized Tests for their students, all students can now take what we call "Common Tests." These are the same Tests offered by the Internet Testing Companion.

Next up will be Moogie Mach 10. It will combine all the best parts of each of the existing forms of Moogie. The anticipated release is Winter/Spring 2008, and we're really excited about it. However there may be additional delays because of the really cool things we still want to add to Moogie on the Net - just wait and see!
