Everywhere: Questions Are Stored As Templates

Moogie uses questions stored like this:

Sally has [A] apples. She ate [B] of them. How many are left?

• Each time the question is used, random numbers are selected for each of the variables.
• Each variable has certain restrictions applied to it so the question makes sense. Here, [B] must be less than [A], and Moogie does this like a pro.

Students see the question like this, but the numbers are always different:

Sally has 10 apples. She ate 5 of them. How many are left?

The answer choices are also randomly generated - but with a twist!

• The first answer shown here is the correct one.
• To try to foresee common mistakes students make with numbers, this question might be written to make sure the second and third choices are offered as distracters!

General Arena Workouts

Each Question Has Its Own Score

• Moogie remembers more than just how well a student does in any given strand.
• A score is kept for every single question in the database.
• Regardless of where the work is done, all scores accumulate here.
• This way, Moogie knows precisely where a student's trouble spots are.

Questions With the Lowest Scores Are Shown First

• Time is valuable! Why waste it working where students don't need to?
• Every time a student begins working in a strand, the questions are sorted from lowest score to highest score.
• If a question is answered correctly twice, without being missed, the student never sees it again.
• This way, students work where they need it the most!

When a question is missed, students have 2 or 3 options:

1. Re-try the question (with different numbers, of course).
2. Skip the question for now. Moogie will remember you had trouble.
3. If available, a link to easier question(s) which will help the student understand his/her mistake.

Helpful Hints are also often shown for missed questions.

Assessments

Students are encouraged to take Assessments

• Assessments are available in each strand & Grade Level.
• Questions are still scored just like they are for Workouts.
• Work done on an Assessment is also added to the work shown in the General Arena.

Students who don't do well on an Assessment should do an AWWS Workout

• AWWS (Actively Working the Weak Spots) Workouts are similar to Workouts in the General Arena.
• Students are shown only questions similar to the one(s) missed during the Assessment.
• When satisfactory work has been done with an AWWS Workout, the student is encouraged to re-take the original Assessment. But remember - the numbers will be different!

Stomping Red-Flags

Red Flags are raised for questions a student continually has trouble with

• Ideally, a teacher or friend will sit with the student to help him/her understand the questions.
• Questions can be re-tried as many times as the student wants - even if he/she has answers it correctly - to help reinforce what is being learned.
